100 Taxi Drivers Strike against City of Orlando, Orlando Airport and Mears Transportation

The strike comes amid an investigation by the National Labor Relations Board into the labor practices of Mears and its subsidiaries, Yellow Cab, City Cab and Checker Cab companies. The cabdrivers claim that during a March 10 protest, Mears officials noted the license-plate numbers of participating Mears drivers, and later suspended or terminated their cab leases, said J. Racism In Volusia County Florida Attorney General Opens Civil Rights Investigation

An Orange City Apartment complex that reportedly refused to rent to a black woman has been ordered to turn over its records by the state attorney general's office. The investigation started after the Florida Civil Rights Association ask the attorney general to look into a complaint by Orange City resident Lewarna Williams against Fountainview Apartments at 910 S. U.S. 17-92, association president, J Willie David, III said, Wednesday.

HUD eyes complaints on Hawthorne Village

ORLANDO - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is investigating the complaint from residents of Hawthorne Village apartments, who said they lived in deplorable conditions and were forced to move in 2006. The Florida Civil Rights Association initially filed the housing complaint in September with the U.S. Department of Justice, said association President J Willie David, III.
