(Washington, DC) Purpose - The purpose of
the Exchange Program is to assign qualified
Haitian Americans and others to provide
technical assistance to help Haiti improve in
areas vital to its growth and development,
which may include education, energy,
environment, healthcare, infrastructure,
security, transportation, and disaster
preparedness.

HB 1007 Florida Commission on Human
Relations

(Thompson, G.):  Revises terminology to
substitute "disability" for "handicap" in
numerous provisions; defines additional
terms; permits commission to use any
discovery method authorized by rules of
civil procedure; specifies persons &
entities that may receive technical
assistance; clarifies terms "because of
sex" or "on basis of sex" as used in
specified provisions; revises provisions
relating to responses to complaints;
provides time limit on commencement of
certain actions; provides for effect of
election to file for administrative hearing in
certain proceedings; provides for
computation of time periods in specified
provisions; revises procedures & fees for
facilities or communities claiming
exemption from specified provisions as
housing for older persons; provides that if
commission determines that there is not
reasonable cause to believe that
discriminatory housing practice has
occurred, commission shall dismiss
complaint & provides for administrative
hearings following such determination;
provides for direct-support organization for
commission.  Effective Date: July 1, 2009

(Coley):  Provides that certain employees
may be disciplined only for just cause;
authorizes progressive discipline under
certain circumstances; revises provisions
relating to rules & procedures for transfer,
layoff, & discipline of employees in career
service; revises requirements relating to
implementation of layoffs & revises
application of existing provisions
prescribing layoff procedures; revises
method by which layoff procedures shall

SB 2176 Discrimination in the Treatment
of Persons

(Lawson):  Provides definitions for
purposes of the Florida Civil Rights Act.
Provides criteria for determining different
types of impairments. Revises the powers
of the Florida Commission on Human
Relations. Specifies that protections
extend to women who are pregnant or who
have any medical condition related to
pregnancy or childbirth. Revises the
procedure for filing a complaint with the
commission, etc.  Effective Date: July 1,
2009
