Partner with a premier civil rights organization on civil rights issues that are complex, cutting edge and high profile
The Florida Civil Rights Association (FCRA) is faced with a huge number of requests for assistance from individuals and organizations. We meet this demand through direct representation and by appearing as amicus curiae. Almost all of our cases are handled by volunteer attorneys who work in cooperation with our Legal Affairs Committee.
In addition to litigation, our volunteer attorneys help in several other important ways. Occasionally, we need help analyzing proposed legislation that affects civil rights. In addition, we sometimes provide comments on policies or address complaints to administrative agencies. Finally, as a volunteer develops expertise in a particular area of civil rights, we may also ask him or her to assist us in public education functions such as representing the Florida Civil Rights Association at speaking engagements, press conferences, and address the media concerning civil rights issues.

"The group drawn a lot of media attention since its president, J. Willie David III, protested after an Orange Sheriff's Office pursuit led to the deaths of two local people in 2005. Among other things, David has filed several complaints with officials. Today, the association contacted media, saying the U.S. Attorney General should investigate the shooting of Angilo Freeland, the man authorities said shot and killed a Polk Sheriff's deputy and his dog last month. Freeland was shot 68 times when he was found hiding in woods with a gun. Red more >>.
